Elizabeth T. “Betty” Guenot

Photo of Elizabeth GuenotElizabeth T. “Betty” Guenot, 86, formerly of (North) Philipsburg, died Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at Mountain Laurel Health & Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield.

Born on December 29, 1929, in Lecontes Mills, Betty was a daughter of the late Harris Leigey & Grace (Royer) Leigey and the late Charles Renaud, whom she considered like a father.

Elizabeth was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Philipsburg; where she was a member of the Altar –Rosary Society and former member of the church choir. Betty was also formerly involved in the music ministry department at St. Callistus Catholic Church, Kane, where she served as a church organist.

Elizabeth was a 1948 graduate of Clearfield High School and a 1951 graduate of the former Philipsburg State General Hospital School of Nursing.

Elizabeth was married on April 26, 1952, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Frenchville, to Dennis E. Guenot, who survives at the Mountain Laurel Health & Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield.

Betty had been employed as a Registered Nurse with the former Philipsburg State General Hospital, Philipsburg.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; Charles Renaud, who was like a father to Betty; one sister, Margaret Hugney; one brother, Joseph “Joe” Leigey, who died while serving during the Second World War; and a brother-in-law, Fred Nagelhout.

Betty is survived (in addition to her husband, Dennis) by three sons: Gregory J. Guenot and his wife, Lisa, of West Decatur, Rodney D. Guenot and his wife, Karen “Joan,” of West Decatur and Gerard E. Guenot and his wife, Sandra, of Port Matilda; one daughter, Germaine T. Diehl, of Coopersburg, Pa; one sister, Marcella Nagelhout, of Loveland, Ohio; fifteen grandchildren: Kaila A. Fleischman and her husband, Andrew, Brenton T. Diehl, Christina G. Miller and her husband, James, Joshua S. Diehl, Billy J. Guenot, Curtis W. Guenot, Liza D. Guenot, Timothy S. Guenot and his wife, Becky, Stacy A. Guenot, Lori R. Shaw and her husband, Jerry, Todd D. Guenot, Jessica L. Guenot and her fiancé, Jason Supenia, Nicholle M. Heltman and her husband, Eric, and Kristen T. Reams and her husband, Michael; eighteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be Celebrated for Elizabeth on Saturday, September 3, 2016, at 11:00 am at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 64 St. Mary’s Lane, Frenchville, with Rev. David A. Perry, Celebrant.

Memorial contributions may be made in Betty’s memory to the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 E. Spruce Street, Philipsburg, Pa 16866.
