Robert M. “Bob” Greenawalt

Robert M. “Bob” Greenawalt, 86, of RD Philipsburg, died Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at his residence.

Bob was born on May 11, 1936, in (Mock’s Hill) Philipsburg, a son of the late John Martin and Carmel Mae (Dixon) Greenawalt.

Bob was a 1954 graduate of the former Philipsburg High School.

During his working career, he was the owner / operator of Greenawalt Camper Sales and G&G Tarps, both formerly located in Philipsburg.

Bob was an active member of the New Life Center. Among his various positions at the church, he especially enjoyed greeting people at the door when they arrived for services. He was affectionately referred to as the “candyman” because he always had a piece of candy to hand out to the people that he greeted at the door.

Bob was also a lifelong animal lover and he enjoyed taking care of his animals; especially his beloved “man’s best friend,” Bo.

Bob was married on December 22, 1956, in Philipsburg, to the former Carmen Forshey, who survives at home.

He is also survived by two daughters, Diane L. Gray and Penny K. Straw and her husband, Larry, all of Philipsburg; two sons, John R. Greenawalt and his wife, Molly, of Hummelstown and Cory M. Greenawalt and his wife, Laurie, of Philipsburg; nine grandchildren: Ashlee Gray and her husband, Coty Tarr, of East Stroudsburg, Tim Gray and his wife, Kristin, of Westminster, Maryland, Danielle Curtorillo and her husband, Tony, of Philipsburg, Kylee Kimple and her husband, Jon, of Philipsburg, Mark Greenawalt and his wife, Nikki, of Harrisburg, Ethan Greenawalt and his wife, Kaylyn, of Laramie, Wyoming, Lucas Greenawalt, of Bryan, Texas, Andrew Greenawalt and his wife, Ella, of Philipsburg and Denver Greenawalt, of Philipsburg; ten great-grandchildren; two sisters, Donna Shields, of Chester Hill and Sandra Maurer and her husband, John “Buck,” of Philipsburg; and numerous other extended family members.

Bob was preceded in death by one sister, Norma J. Baumgardner and one brother, Jack Eugene Greenawalt, Sr., in addition to his parents.

There will be no public visitation or funeral service. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made in Bob’s memory in lieu of flowers. Memorials may be sent to the New Life Center, 111 S. 2nd. Street, Philipsburg, Pa 16866.
