Maxine (Steele) Frantz

Maxine Frantz, 86, of Philipsburg, and formerly of Hawk Run, died Thursday, July 28, 2022, at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College.

            Maxine was born on May 20, 1936, in (Pinchy) Graham Township, Clearfield County, Pa., a daughter of the late William B. and Margaret E. (Putt) Steele.

            Maxine was married on August 20, 1962, in Cumberland, Maryland, to John H. Frantz, who preceded her in death on July 3, 2001.

            Maxine began her working career at the age of 16 working for the General Cigar plant in (North) Philipsburg. She had been employed as a belt inspector and worked at the plant until it ceased operations. She then accepted a position with the Harbor Inn in Philipsburg. She worked for many years at the motel working in both the laundry and maid service departments until her retirement.

            Maxine attended the New Life Center in Philipsburg. She was an auxiliary member of the Philipsburg AMVETS and a member of the Carpathian Club in Hawk Run.

            Among her favorite pastimes, Maxine enjoyed traveling and going camping with her husband. She also enjoyed watching NASCAR races and she was a diehard Kevin Harvick fan.

            Maxine is survived by two sisters, June Moriarty, of Boalsburg and Joyce Wynne, of Williamsburg, Virginia; one brother, Richard A. Steele, of Mahaffey; a step-daughter, Mary L. Seprish and a step-son, Robert Lee Frantz and his wife, Ruth, all of Hawk Run; and numerous step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and other extended family members.

            She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; three brothers: William, Lawrence and Charles Steele; a stepdaughter, Evelyn “Jean” Schmoke; and a stepson, John H. Frantz, Jr.

            A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at 1:30 pm, at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 719 E. Spruce St., Philipsburg, with Rev. John Dill, officiating.

            A visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 from 5 to 8 pm and on Wednesday, from Noon until the time of the service.

            Interment will be in Bigler Cemetery, Bigler.
