Donald P. “Don” Enck

Donald P. “Don” Enck, 87, of Philipsburg, passed away Thursday, November 26, 2020, at home surrounded by his loved ones.

Donald was born on November 2, 1933, in Harrisburg, a son of the late Donald and Viola (Stine) Enck.

Don joined the US Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War. His assignmentsImage of the US Air Force Seal included serving overseas in Germany and stateside. He maintained contact with members of his unit up until his death.

After the war, Don went into business; first, he co-owned the Skateland Roller Rink and then he opened Don Enck’s Barber Shop.

Don was married to the former Marjorie Hartle who preceded him in death in 1993.

Don’s passion was service; he served Philipsburg Borough as a member of Borough Council, Borough Manager and most recently as Code Enforcement Officer. He also served Chester Hill Borough in the same capacities. He also served as a Scoutmaster of Troop 49, Boy Scouts of America.

Don was a member of the Philipsburg American Legion, Post 437, the Philipsburg Kiwanis Club, and the Skyhawks RC Flying Club. He had many hobbies; including an avid interest in woodworking and snowmobiling. While he earned many honors in his lifetime; one of Don’s proudest accomplishments was the role he played in ensuring the erection of the 37 foot tall Santa Claus display that was first erected in Philipsburg Borough and now at Cold Stream Dam every year since 1962.

Don was also an accomplished roller-skater. He and his first wife, Marjorie, competed at the state level of competitions.

Don is survived by his two sons, Philip Enck and his wife, Pamela, of Pittsburgh, and Michael Enck, of Levittown; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and his Philipsburg family: Kathy, Sherry Putillion and Shelly Butterworth and her husband, Michael.

Along with his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by his second wife, the former L. Velma McDonald; and three sisters: Mary Elizabeth, Elizabeth “Betty” Jane and Dorothy Ruth.

Don enjoyed life and treasured the time spent with his family; especially his grandchildren whom he was fond of regaling with his endless stash of “Dad jokes.”
A private graveside service at Philipsburg Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.

Military Honors will be accorded by the Philipsburg American Legion Honor Guard.

A future date and time will be set for the placement of a plaque honoring Don’s contributions to Philipsburg Borough and the Santa display.
