Charlotte Louise Disshon

Charlotte Louise Disshon, 94, of Philipsburg, passed away Sunday, October 28, 2018, at Penn Highlands Clearfield, after a brief illness.

She was born on April 15, 1924, in Stumptown, RD Osceola Mills, a daughter of the late John A. and Kathryn (Jones) Dixon.

Charlotte grew up in Edendale, RD Osceola Mills, during the Great Depression. Like most children from the Rush Township side of Osceola Mills during that era, she attended the former Rush Consolidated School; now known by most in the area as “Cow Tail.” She would then attend and graduate from the former Osceola Mills High School in 1942.

After graduation, she hitchhiked daily from home to her first job at the former McCrory’s 5 and 10 Cent Store in Philipsburg; where she earned a wage of 18 cents per hour.

Charlotte was married on April 21, 1945, in Osceola Mills, to her soulmate and best friend, Leroy J. Disshon. They were happily married for 59 years. Leroy would precede her in death on February 21, 2004.

Charlotte is survived by two sons, Leroy Disshon, Jr. and his wife, Dorothy, of Clearfield, and Dennis Disshon, of Anchorage, Alaska; three grandchildren: Kimberly McBennett and her husband, Michael, of Akron, Ohio, Susan Disshon, of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, and Pamela Disshon, of Clearfield; five great-grandchildren; and numerous other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Florence Gearhart and Kathryn McMahon Chihon; and one daughter-in-law, Linda, in 2015; in addition to her parents and husband.

Charlotte was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She spoke fondly of the time raising her children; swimming at Cold Stream Dam, ice skating at Black Moshannon, traveling cross-country and a particularly wonderful trip to a World’s Fair. She enjoyed spending time with her extended family members, attending Grace United Methodist Church and tending to her home and gardens. Always quick with a smile and her opinion, her kitchen table was always surrounded by any number of children, family, friends and neighbors. Her mind was sharp as a tack and she could remember names and events from long ago without hesitation. She was a devout Christian, an accomplished seamstress, an avid reader and physically active until her recent illness.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2018, at 11 am, at Grace United Methodist Church, 912 E. Pine Street, Philipsburg, with Rev. Michelle Bodle, officiating.

Visitation will be on Friday, November 2, 2018, from 6 to 8 pm, at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 E. Spruce Street, Philipsburg; and on Saturday at the church, from 10 am, until the time of the funeral service.

Interment will be in Philipsburg Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in Charlotte’s memory to the Moshannon Valley Branch YMCA, P.O. Box 426, Philipsburg, Pa 16866 or to Grace United Methodist Church, 912 E. Pine Street, Philipsburg, Pa 16866.

Charlotte will be deeply missed by the many people that were a part of her life.
