Maggie graduated from the former Philipsburg High School in 1949. She furthered her education at the Pennsylvania State University and received her bachelor’s degree in Home Economics, Childhood Development in 1954.

Maggie was married to James J. Potts, III, who preceded her in death on January 28, 1982. She was then remarried in 1984, to William A. Delansky, who preceded her in death on March 29, 1992.

She is survived by two daughters, Deborah P. Abbott and her husband, Charles, of Spring Grove (Pa) and Sandra P. Gonder and her husband, James, of State College; two sons, William J. Potts and Linda Wigod, of Lafayette, Colorado and Darin E. Potts and Mandy Sturm, of Wellington, Florida; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous other extended family members.

Maggie was the Director of the Philipsburg Child Development Center for 25 years prior to retiring in 1997. Maggie’s dream of providing quality childcare to the area came to fruition when she spearheaded the task force to start the local day care center; opened the center as its’ program director in 1973; and grew the program enrollment under her watchful eye. Maggie was also instrumental in pioneering school-age childcare on-site at Philipsburg elementary schools that has served countless numbers of the area’s youth.

Post retirement, she enjoyed living in Florida, traveling, entertaining, interior decorating and spending time with family and friends. She was an accomplished, classy woman; a generous, caring mom; a loyal, cheerful friend and loving grandmother. She is best remembered for her positive outlook, engaging spirit and beautiful warm smile.

Special thanks to her compassionate caregivers: Daphne Thomas, Deborah Benesch and Susan Rudy, for whom she had great fondness and gratitude.
