Jean was born on October 3, 1934, in Philipsburg, a daughter of the late Elmer L. and Ethel V. (Frank) Harper.

Jean was a 1952 graduate of the former Philipsburg High School. She was a member of the (South) Philipsburg Christian & Missionary Alliance Church.

Jean was employed with several area businesses during her working career. These included: serving as a nurse’s aide at the former Philipsburg State General Hospital, the former General Cigar plant in (North) Philipsburg and the Harbor Inn. She spent most of her career with the Harbor Inn; starting out as a waitress, then dining room supervisor, hostess and finally assistant manager. Jean retired from the Harbor Inn after 29 years of service.

Jean was married on August 2, 1952, at the United Brethren Church in Tyrone, to Melvin R. Croft, who preceded her in death on November 30, 2013.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Maxine Parada; an infant sister, Madeline; and five brothers: Raymond, Norman, Harold, John and William Harper, in addition to her parents and husband.

Jean is survived by a daughter, Karen L. Ransdorf and her husband, Michael, of Philipsburg; a son, Dave R. Croft and his wife, Pam, of (Maytown) Marietta,(Pa.); four grandchildren: Amanda Ferguson and her fiancé, Ryan Kline, of Maryland, Nicole Ransdorf, of Philipsburg, Heather Gensemer and her husband, Randy, of Elizabethtown and Jeff Croft, of Columbia, (Pa.); six great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and numerous other extended family members.

A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Interment will be in Philipsburg Cemetery.
