Barry A. Covey
Barry A. Covey, 68, of Philipsburg, died Friday, October 13, 2023, at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College.
Barry was born on June 25, 1955, in (North) Philipsburg, a son of Janet M. (Long) Covey, of Philipsburg; and the late Hubert H. Covey.
Barry was a 1973 graduate of the Philipsburg-Osceola Area High School. Following high school, he attended Robert Morris University, Moon Township, Pa. He transferred to Frostburg State University, Frostburg, Maryland, and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education.
Barry relocated to California; and during his working career, he was employed as a supervisor with the San Francisco Bread Company until his retirement.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and the B.P.O. Elks Lodge & Country Club, Lodge #1173, both of Philipsburg.
Among his favorite pastimes, Barry loved golf, baseball and sports in general. He was a diehard fan of Penn State football, basketball and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and his beloved “four-legged friend,” Chester.
Barry is survived by his three daughters: Melissa A. Schulte and her husband, Daniel, of Hinesville, Georgia, Heather M. Huerta and her husband, Thomas, of Stockton, California and Lindsey M. Cox and her husband, Cody, of Oakdale, California; one grandson, Salem T. Huerta; one brother, Fred L. Covey and his wife, Linda, of Post Falls, Idaho; his former spouse, Cynthia M. Covey, of Santa Rosa, California; and numerous other extended family members.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Philipsburg B.P.O. Elks Lodge and Country Club, Lodge #1173, on Friday, October 20, 2023, beginning at 4 pm, with a memorial service led by Pastor Samantha McElwee. Following the memorial service, the family will receive guests at the lodge until 8 pm.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 719 E. Spruce St., Philipsburg.
