Theodora J. “Teddy” Conklin

Theodora J. “Teddy” Conklin, 89, of Philipsburg, died Thursday, July 29, 2021 at her residence.

Theodora, better known as “Teddy” by family and friends, was born on February 7, 1932, in Philipsburg, a daughter of the late David and Bessie Jane (Pomroy) Johnston.

She was a 1950 graduate of the former Philipsburg High School. She graduated with honors and was recognized as the salutatorian of her class.

Teddy was employed with a few local businesses throughout her work career. Early on, she was employed as a local operator with the Bell Telephone Company. Following her service with Bell Telephone, she was employed with several local markets including: the former Quaker Market (now Hometown) in Chester Hill, the A.&P. Market (now Weis) and Gardner’s Candies, both formerly in Philipsburg. Teddy retired following her time with Gardner’s. A common thread in Teddy’s employment and personal life was the ease with which she could converse with others. She probably never met someone that she was not able to have a conversation with. This also helps explain the enjoyment she had playing Pinochle and Mahjong with her friends.

Teddy was a woman of faith and this was reflected in her active involvement with her church, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, in Philipsburg. Her church activities included the Vestry, Altar Guild, and the Episcopal Church Women. She was also a member of The Order of the Daughters of the King.

Teddy was married on January 20, 1953, in Winchester, Virginia, to Robert W. Conklin, who preceded her in death on September 4, 2015.

She was also preceded in death by four sisters: Betty Dobson, Louise Johnston, Ethel Mae “Bobbi” Johnston and Donna Rae Escott.

She is survived by two sons, Norman David Conklin and his wife, Elizabeth, of Roaring Spring, (Pa.) and Jeffrey J. Conklin and his wife, Betty, of Montgomery, Texas; three grandchildren: Stephanie A. Beauvais and her husband, Jason, of Houston, Texas, Joshua David Conklin and his wife, Rhonda, of Winter Garden, Florida and Sarah M. Bechtel and her husband, Jason, of Curryville, (Pa.); seven great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and numerous other extended family members.

She also loved P-O High School sports and watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in their respective events.

A Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated on Saturday, August 7, 2021, at 12 Noon, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 406 E. Presqueisle Street, Philipsburg, with Rev. Fr. Robert McKay, IV, celebrant.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2021, at 12 Noon, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 406 E. Presqueisle Street, Philipsburg, with Rev. Fr. Robert McKay, IV, officiating.

Interment will be in Philipsburg Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
