Photo of Peter CollinsPeter H. Collins, 83, of Philipsburg, died Monday, January 4, 2021, at UPMC Pinnacle West Shore, Mechanicsburg.

Peter was born on June 24, 1937, at the US Naval Base, in Olongapo, Philippines, a son of the late Herbert A. and Hermine “Minnie” (Dornbach) Collins.

He was a 1954 graduate of Darby High School. He briefly attended business school in Swarthmore, (Pa.). Peter then served with the US Navy from 1955-1959. Following his military service, he furthered his education at Temple University and graduated in 1963 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting.

Peter began his career in West Covina, Calif. as a business tax auditor for the State of California. He and his family then returned to Pennsylvania and he accepted a controller position with the former Philipsburg State General Hospital until its closure in 1991. He then accepted a position with the Pa Department of Veterans Affairs, Spring City, Pa. He was employed with the VA until his retirement in June, 1999.

He was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Philipsburg; a former member of the Philipsburg Kiwanis; and a member of the VFW, Post #1961, Gardena, Calif.

Peter was married on August 3, 1963, in Collingdale, (Pa) to the former Lois E. Young, who survives at home.

He is also survived by one daughter, Suzanne N. Hartmann and her husband, Eric, of Baltimore Co., Maryland; two sons, Christopher P. Collins and his wife, Janice, of Mt. Pleasant Mills and Mark A. Collins and his wife, Jamie, of Glen Allen, Virginia; six grandchildren: Isabelle N. Hartmann, Ian C. Collins, Paige A. Collins, Grecia Cobaxin Collins, Alison Hubble, and Andrew Powell; one sister, Marguerite Magargal, of Vineland, New Jersey; and numerous other extended family members.

Visitation will be on Thursday, January 7, 2021, from 5 to 8 pm, at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 719 E. Spruce St., Philipsburg.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 8, 2021, at 11 am, at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 400 S. Front St., Philipsburg, with Rev. John Gibbons, celebrant.

Interment will be in the SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery, RD Philipsburg. Military Honors will be accorded by the Philipsburg American Legion Honor Guard.
