Theodore Roy “Ted” Butterworth

PHILIPSBURG – Theodore Roy “Ted” Butterworth, 91, of (Hudson) Philipsburg, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2022, at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College.

Born March 19, 1930, in Philipsburg, Ted was one of six children of Violet (Perna) and Henry Butterworth. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Sonna Thomas; siblings, Earl, Merle, Arnold, and Evelyn (Butterworth) Matson. He is survived by his wife, Anna (Kadash) Butterworth; three daughters, Linda Mayhew, Patricia and her husband, Calvin Dixon, Gina and her husband, Bernie Grundusky; a son, Kevin Butterworth and his wife, Candace Brown; a brother, Ronald Butterworth and his wife, Jean (Mott) Butterworth; 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Ted was a 1948 graduate of Philipsburg High School, an avid reader and loved car racing and sports, especially football and wrestling. He had a zest for life like no other and was an intelligent, loving, kind, giving human being. During his 17 years of illness, he always kept a positive attitude so much so he could have been a motivational speaker.

He was a well known and beloved mechanic for the greater part of his life. Butterworth Motors was a family owned business, and he started at a young age to learn and build his career in mechanics. He gave freely of his time to all as he loved helping others and continued to be a mechanic throughout his entire life. He was also a Deacon and then an Elder at the First Church of Christ.

A funeral service will be held at the First Church of Christ, 1437 Tyrone Pike, Philipsburg, on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at 11:30 am, with Pastor Ryan Parish, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 am until the time of the service.

Interment will be in Philipsburg Cemetery.
