Anna L. Butterworth

Anna LaRue Butterworth, 85, a resident of Westminster Place at Windy Hill Village, and formerly of Hudson, RD Philipsburg, died Thursday, November 3, 2022, at her residence.

Anna was born on March 5, 1937, in Hudson, a daughter of the late Martin and Mary (Smiley) Kadash.

Anna was a 1955 graduate of the former Philipsburg High School. During her high school years, she was an active member and captain of the cheerleading squad.  Following graduation, she attended childcare training.

Early in her working career, she was employed as a nanny in the Pittsburgh area. She then returned to the Philipsburg area and was employed at the former Philipsburg State General Hospital. Later in her career, she was employed at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home until her retirement.

Anna was married on June 27, 1960, in Houtzdale, to Theodore R. “Ted” Butterworth, who preceded her in death on March 17, 2022.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Jean “Peggy” Burchill; and an infant sister, Eleanor.

Anna is survived by three daughters, Linda L. Mayhew, of Clearfield,  Patricia A. Dixon and her husband, Calvin, of New Liberty, RD Philipsburg and Gina R. Grundusky and her husband, Bernie, of Mechanicsburg; a son, Kevin J. Butterworth and his wife, Candace Brown, of South Daytona, Fla.; a sister, Mary Lou Schnarrs and her husband, Duane, of Gearhartville, RD Philipsburg; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Among her favorite pastimes, she was a member of the Grassflat Bobcats. The Bobcats were part of the former Mountain Top Girls Softball League. Her team had the distinction of winning the league championship three years in a row with records of 9-1 in 1973, and two perfect seasons of 10-0 in 1974 and 1975.  Anna stayed active throughout her life playing and coaching softball, on bowling leagues, and in card clubs.  She was always on the go traveling, visiting or helping friends.  A selfless, loving, kind, caring individual who was well-loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

A funeral service will be held at the First Church of Christ, 1437 Tyrone Pike, Philipsburg, on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at 11 am, with Pastor Ryan Parish, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 10 am until the time of the service.

Interment will be in Philipsburg Cemetery.
