Eugene “Babe” Burge

Eugene “Babe” Burge, 78, of (Gearhartville) RD Philipsburg, died Monday, May 8, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family.

Eugene was born on April 12, 1945, in Gearhartville, a son of the late Carrol “Carl” and Aliene M. (Harris) Burge.

He was employed throughout his working career as a gas truck driver for J.J. Powell, Chester Hill. He retired from “J.J.” after over 35 years of service.

He was married on September 4, 1964, in Cumberland, Maryland, to the former Linda M. Croyle, who survives at home.

He is also survived by a daughter, Missy L. Cerny and her husband, Filip, of Philipsburg; two sons, Douglas E. Burge and his wife, Jill, of Osceola Mills and Brian “Ralph” Burge and his wife, Melinda, of Philipsburg; three grandchildren: Brandon Burge and his fiancée, Cheyenne Kephart, Eric Burge and his wife, Tessah and McKenzie Burge; two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Quinn Burge; a sister, Janet M. Dixon and her husband, Edward M., of Gearhartville; 3 sisters-in-law, Deb (Holdren) Mancino of Marysville, Ohio, Fay Burge, of Gearhartville and Betty Lou Croyle, of Sandy Ridge; and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

Babe was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Burge; in addition to his parents.

Among his favorite pastimes, Babe enjoyed spending time with his family and his dogs; he enjoyed hunting and fishing when his health permitted; and he loved to spend hours on his riding lawn mower cutting grass.

There will be no public services per Babe’s request.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to 365 Hospice,  220 Regent Ct., Ste. E2, State College, PA 16801 or any animal shelter of your choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Philipsburg.
