Marjorie Ruth Trawick Bates

1938—2020

Marjorie Ruth Trawick Bates was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2020, in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Margie was the daughter of the late Nellie Estelle Trawick and Ralph Woodrow Trawick of Pensacola, Florida.

She was preceded in death by her brother Barry Eugene Trawick and is survived by her brother Dr. Stephen Charles Trawick, of Pensacola, Fla.

Margie was a graduate of Auburn University, class of 1959.

She married David Wynn Bates, Sr. of Philipsburg, Pennsylvania, on March 19, 1960, in Pensacola, Fla. David preceded her in death on August 7, 2005.

She is survived by four children: Jacquelyn Leigh Alling and Douglas Alling, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; Cynthia B. Hall, Matthews, North Carolina and Todd Hall, Raleigh, North Carolina; David and Michaela Bates, Apex, North Carolina; and Michael and Joanna Bates, Sherrills Ford, North Carolina.

Margie is survived by eight grandchildren: Meagan Chieppor, Raleigh, NC; Kacey and Kyle Mahle, Matthews, NC; Courtney and Ben Pugh, Charlotte, NC; Cameron Bates, Sherrills Ford, NC; Lindsey and Matt Cowen, Mount Pleasant, SC; Jessica and David Rivers, Maple Grove, Minnesota, Sara Bates and Jonathan Bates, both of Middletown, Delaware.

Margie is survived by seven great-grandchildren: Colt Mahle, Matthews, NC; Haddie Pugh and Lulu Pugh, Charlotte, NC; Audrey Cowen, Liam Cowen and Ethan Cowen of Mount Pleasant, SC and Wyatt Rivers, Maple Grove, MN.

Margie lived a happy life in Philipsburg, PA and Hilton Head, SC caring for her family. She was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Philipsburg. She enjoyed playing golf and had the distinct pleasure of scoring two “holes-in-one” during her playing years. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

A Rite One Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 17, 2021, at 1pm, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 406 E. Presqueisle St., Philipsburg, Pa., with The Reverend Robert McKay, IV, officiating.

Interment will be in Philipsburg Cemetery.
