Samuel L. “Sam” Bailey

Samuel L. “Sam” Bailey, 85, of Chester Hill, died Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at Windy Hill Village, PSL., Philipsburg.

Samuel was born on July 4, 1936, in Clearfield, a son of the late Norman and Louise (Rogers) Bailey.

Sam was a 1954 graduate of the former Philipsburg High School. He also attended the Pennsylvania State University.

Early in his working career, Sam was employed as a bridge builder with B&B Construction, formerly of Chester Hill.

Then in 1981, he founded his own company and partnered with his son to form Scott Bailey Construction. He managed to keep a hand in the business even into his latter years until his health issues forced his retirement.

Sam was married on July 5, 1957, in Winchester, Virginia, to the former Shirley L. Vaux, who survives at home.

He is also survived by three children: Leslie Watson and her husband, Scott, Tracy Bailey and Scott Bailey and his wife, Michelle, all of Philipsburg; four grandchildren: Samantha Bailey, Aaron Bailey, Nicole Heinlein and her husband, Dan and Ryan Watson and his wife, Chelsea; six great-grandchildren: Cadence, Luke, Levi, Jane, Nelle and Nora; one sister, Mary McClosky and her husband, Tom, of Pleasant Gap; two brothers, Roger Bailey and his wife, Betty, of Centre Hall and Mike Bailey and his wife, Janet, of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and numerous other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dana Bailey; two brothers Richard “Dick” and John “Jack” Bailey; and two sisters, Jennie Lee Husted and Cathy Wayne.

A funeral service will be held at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 719 E. Spruce St., Philipsburg, on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at 4 pm, with Pastor Donald Smith, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, from 1 pm until the time of the funeral service.

Memorial contributions may be made in Sam’s memory to the Holt Memorial Library, 17 N. Front St., Philipsburg, Pa 16866.
