Cecile M. Askey

Cecile M. Askey, 89, of (Gearhartville) RD Philipsburg, died Thursday, May 6, 2021 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Cecile was born on October 8, 1931, in Spencer, New York, a daughter of the late Fred and Alice (Smith) McClain.

She was a graduate of Williamsport High School.

She was married on September 11, 1951, in Hagerstown, Maryland, to Leland “Lee” E. Askey, who preceded her in death on November 3, 1998.

Cecile and her husband, Lee, owned and operated the former Lee’s Place on Pine Street in Philipsburg for over 33 years.

Among her favorite pastimes, she dearly loved spending time with her girls and their families.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Heather Shimmel; a brother, Donald McClain and a half-brother, Charles McClain, in addition to her parents and husband.

Cecile is survived by six daughters: Darlene L. Shimmel and her husband, Scott, Linda M. Folmar, Donna M. Gavlak, Phyllis D. Soltis and her husband, John, and Karen A. Patrick and her husband, James, all of (Gearhartville) RD Philipsburg and Jeanette K. Thompson and her husband, Jody, of West Decatur; ten grandchildren: Scott Shimmel and his wife, Dawn, Jason Shimmel and his wife, Kim, Nicole Fehr and her husband, Chris, Nathan Folmar, Tiffany Albright and her husband, Cory, Melissa Soltis, Alyson Hokanson and her husband, Chris, Mindy Thompson, Tyler Thompson and his wife, Cierra and Dakota Thompson and his girlfriend, Maddie Gildea; ten great-grandchildren: Heather Shimmel, Jaya Shimmel, Janaye Shimmel, Starlyne Albright, Londyn Albright, Piper Hokanson, Graham Hokanson, Hunter Foster, Peyton Willis and Zoey Thompson; and numerous other extended family members.

A private funeral service will be held at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Philipsburg, with Rev. Noel Meyers, officiating.

Interment will be in Centre Cemetery, RD Osceola Mills.
