Lawrence B. “Larry” Ammerman

Lawrence B. “Larry” Ammerman, 89, formerly of Philipsburg, died Sunday, January 21, 2024, at Celebration Villa of Nittany Valley, State College.

Larry was born on November 28, 1934, in Philipsburg, a son of the late Lawrence C. and Violet F. (Beck) Ammerman.

He was a 1952 graduate of the former Philipsburg High School. A few years following high school, he served with the US Army from 1956 to 1958.

Larry was a member of the IBEW and was employed for most of his working career as a lineman for Penelec.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Philipsburg; where he had served as a trustee and as a deacon.

Larry was married on October 17, 1965, at Nativity of St. John the Baptist Church, Chester Hill, to the former Mary Ann Bartko, who survives of State College.

He is also survived by three sons: Jerry B. Ammerman, of Philipsburg, Larry Joe Ammerman, of Hawk Run and Mark S. Ammerman and his wife, Jennifer, of Warrior’s Mark; five grandchildren: Cody J. Ammerman, Hunter T. Ammerman, Lillian J. Ammerman, Vincent S. Ammerman and Victor S. Ammerman; and numerous other extended family members.

Larry was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Turner, in addition to his parents.

Among his favorite pastimes, he enjoyed working in his garden, tending to his lawn and spending time with his grandchildren. When his boys were younger, he enjoyed helping coach their Little League baseball teams.

A public visitation will be on Thursday, January 25, 2024, from 5 until 8 pm, at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 719 E. Spruce Street, Philipsburg.

There will be a private funeral service held at the convenience of the family with Rev. Dr. Katie Hopper, officiating.

Interment will be Nativity of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Cemetery (Hudson) RD Philipsburg.
